Fontaine de la Reine, Paris

After a little search on Google, I found this picture (1903) by Eugene Atget. It is the 'Fontaine de la Reine' or 'Fontain of The Queen' in English in Paris. On the corner of Rue St. Denis and Rue Grenata. Probably it isn't the Fontaine de la Reine of the bottle of water I bought yesterday, but you never know. Maybe the Skirted Queen is in the monument too.

Yesterday morning, I bought (with two friends) some special Turkish bread with Feta in a Turkish bakery at the Brugse Poort in Ghent, Belgium. Tired, hungry and... thursty. So we bought a bottle of water too: Fontaine de la Reine.

Red Caped Little Girl

A couple of days ago I ended up with this drawing: a scene out of the tale of Little Red Riding Hood or Roodkapje in Dutch. Roodkapje is a girl with a kind of a skirt, in fact it is a red cape.

Yes, I know. But I'm shure that, in a few years, Roodkapje will be a beautiful young woman with a beautiful red skirt. She will become a beautiful Red Skirted Lady.

Skirted Ladies - Start

Mostly at night, when I'm already in bed, I take a paper and a pencil or marker. I start with a line. I love to start with one line. I never think about what I'm going to draw, but just draw and see.

After a few seconds there are three or four lines on the paper. I look. I think. What is it going to be? Another three lines. Mmm? What is it going to be? Oh no, not again. Not again the skirt and the legs of a lady with a pair of boots. Yes, it is.

I really want to draw something else, but I always end up with a skirted lady.

This blog is about them, about the skirted ladies.
I will post scans of my postings on this blog, some short stories I hear on the street or read in the newspaper about skirted ladies. Everything I find about skirted ladies I will publish on this site.
